Choose pics that help tell the story of the main image. Pics with broad range of colors work best because this allows better cell mapping with the main image. Cell images will be smaller in smaller prints, but can be zoomed in the digital file, if you choose to purchase. Since most U-pics mosaics contain thousands of cell pics, we may duplicate the use of some cell pics to create the main image. The more you provide, the better the results!
Once you select the print size, we will determine how many rows/columns to create the best final mosaic. We like to keep all of the cells visible as much as possible to the observer. The more detailed the image, the more cells we will need to use and the smaller the cells images will be. Less details will allow for fewer cells, and thus larger cell images. We will duplicate cells pics as needed, but will separate any duplicates further apart.
We try hard to map the main image with the cell pics. Sometimes it isn't possible to do this well. Such as when the tile pics don't have enough color variety for proper cell mapping. For example, if your cell pics are all dark in color, and the main image has predominantly light shades. It would be impossible to map the main picture using those cell pics. We would recommend using cell colorization to better match cell colors in such scenarios.
If we choose a square aspect ratio for your cells, and you most of your images are in 3:2 or 4:3 aspect ratio, we will automatically center the image to fit the square aspect ratio. Beyond that, and the colorizing we mentioned above, we do not edit any images that you provide.
Be certain that you have permission to use any and all images that you provide to use in your U-pics mosaic. We will not use any copyrighted photographs, logos of illustrations that you do not have the rights to duplicate. Sure! Just reach out to us about your request, and we will produce an image in our custom illustration style for you to consider. We will continue to release main image illustration ideas here.
After you place your order, it will take up to 3 business days to receive your digital proof to approve your photo mosaic. Once we receive your approval, it will take up to 3-5 business days to print. Depending on your location, our standard shipping time is 2-5 business days. So the average time from ordering to receiving is 2-3 weeks. You can select a rush fee if you need it sooner than the normal time. Larger Wall Mosaics will require longer production and print times indicated above.
Here are somethings to consider when deciding the print size.
The larger the print size, the larger the cell images will be that make up the main image of the mosaic. The smaller the print size, the smaller the cell images will be. For example, in a 16"x24" print, the cells average around a 1/4" in size, while a 24"x36" print, the cells average around 3/8" in size, and in our wall art the cells average 2/3" in size. It's dependent on how many cells are needed to clearly see your main image. If you order a digital file of your U-pics mosaic, you will be able to zoom in on a close up of the cell images.
The smaller the image, the shorter distance from the image you will need to be to appreciate the mosaic image. The larger the image, the longer the distance you will need to be away from the art.
To install peel and place prints, start by cleaning and prepping the wall surface. Then carefully position the print, peel back a small section of the backing, and smooth it onto the wall, working from the center outwards to avoid bubbles. For best results, use a squeegee or soft cloth to smooth out any air pockets and ensure the print adheres firmly. Peel and place prints are repositionable, so if you encounter any issues, you can gently peel the print back and reapply it.
For any wall outlets/vents, turn off the power to the circuit at the breaker box, and remove covers first. Apply the wall mosaic as directed above. Feel for the outlet/vent space, and use a sharp utility knife to ensure clean, precise cuts around the outlet/vent opening. Reattach outlet/vent covers.
